Before the pandemic, a health coach certification was the farthest thing from my mind. I was in a thriving career in marketing strategy for a large fashion retailer. I took my health very seriously and thought I was incorporating healthy habits into my life. Cut to – the Covid 19 epidemic, a time when many of us were re-evaluating our lives and career paths – when I began to take a deeper look at some of the root causes of my health issues. I took every opportunity I could to learn about functional medicine, nutrition, exercise, supplements – really anything that had to do with wellness. I learned so much and found so many answers. I felt an overwhelming urge to share the information I was learning with others who may be experiencing the same thing. I wanted to get a certification that would allow me to use my expertise in the space.

When I began my search for a health coach certification program, the options seemed endless, and the process felt overwhelming. It quickly became clear that choosing the right program would require more than just a quick Google search. I knew I wanted to dive into something purposeful and meaningful, with a particular interest in functional health and wellness. After many months and much research, Mindbodygreen (MBG) stood out as the perfect fit for me.

Here are a few reasons why I chose the Mindgodygreen program:

1. Curriculum Focused on Functional Medicine

One of the main reasons I chose MBG is its curriculum, which is rooted in functional medicine. This was crucial for me, as I wanted to deepen my understanding of how to manage chronic conditions through a holistic approach. Functional medicine resonates with my belief in treating the body as an interconnected system, rather than just addressing symptoms. MBG’s curriculum is designed to offer a comprehensive education in this field, making it an ideal choice for those who, like me, are passionate about functional health.

2. Integrated Functional Nutrition Course

In addition to the functional medicine curriculum, MBG includes a functional nutrition course as part of its certification program. This was a significant draw for me because I believe that nutrition plays a pivotal role in overall health. The course was excellent so far, and had several leading experts in the space provide content. I gained an in-depth knowledge that I can apply both personally and professionally. It’s empowering to learn how to use nutrition as a tool to support and enhance well-being.

3. Time-Efficient and Cost-Effective

Another key factor that influenced my decision was the program’s duration and cost. Unlike other programs that can take a year or more to complete, MBG’s health coaching certification can be achieved in just six months. For someone like me, who is eager to start applying what I’ve learned and move forward in my career, this shorter timeline is incredibly appealing. Additionally, the cost of the program is about half of what similar programs charge, making it a more accessible option without compromising on the quality of education.

4. Helping Women on Their Health Journeys

One of the most important reasons I pursued health coaching is my desire to help women feel healthier, particularly those dealing with perimenopause and hormone imbalances, aging, and chronic autoimmune conditions like POTS, Type 1 Diabetes, Hashimoto’s, Multiple Sclerosis and more. After years of navigating my own health journey and consulting with various doctors—from western allopathic to integrative and naturopathic specialists, as well as acupuncturists and physical therapists, I realized how vital it is to have the right support team and knowledge. That means Getting certified through MBG felt like the next natural step in not only conquering my own health limitations but also equipping myself to help others execute on their desires for healthy habits and paths to wellness.

5. Finding the Right Balance

In my search, I learned the importance of evaluating a program’s balance between subject matter and coaching techniques. For example, I spoke with a coach who went through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and mentioned that while the health subjects were well-covered, coaching skills weren’t as emphasized. On the flip side, other programs like Wellcoaches are known for their strong focus on coaching techniques. MBG struck the right balance for me, offering a solid foundation in both functional health subjects and coaching skills.

6. A Personal Fit with Mindbodygreen

Beyond the curriculum and logistics, what really drew me to MBG was the alignment of their philosophy with my own approach to holistic wellness. I’ve long been a reader of MBG’s content, which covers a broad range of wellness topics that resonate with my values. The program’s holistic approach, combined with its emphasis on functional medicine and nutrition, made it feel like the right place for me to continue my education and expand my knowledge.
